February 26th, 2025  Substance Use Disorders, Trauma and Personality Disorders

Training Overview: This highly requested additional training will focus on the intersection of substance use disorders, trauma, and personality disorders. Professionals working with substance use disorders must often address co-occurring conditions, and this training provides essential tools for assessment and treatment. We will explore multi-modality treatment models, including new brain-based treatment approaches that offer promising alternatives.
Personality disorders, often challenging for professionals, will be reframed in this training, providing new perspectives and treatment recommendations. Trauma, its assessment, and treatment models will also be discussed. The interactive format includes discussions, breakout groups, and PowerPoint presentations. Participants will leave with enhanced skills to improve treatment outcomes and a deeper understanding of the common co-occurrence of these disorders.

Training Overview: The Matrix Model has always emphasized the role of Peers in its group process, particularly as co-leaders. This training will provide a comprehensive introduction to the Matrix Model and explore how Peers can leverage their own recovery experiences to support others. Designed for individuals who have completed the Matrix Program, Peer Specialists, and Recovery Coaches, this training will equip participants with the skills needed to co-facilitate Matrix groups and provide meaningful peer support.
Participants will learn how to use their lived experiences to encourage others and assist new individuals as they navigate the Matrix Program. The training will focus on developing confidence, building relationships, and fostering new skills within the recovery community.

Learning Goals:

  • Support program participants in building new skills, confidence, and relationships as they begin their recovery journey.

  • Acquire skills to co-facilitate Matrix groups in a welcoming and supportive environment.

  • Offer direct peer support based on personal recovery experiences.

This training will cover the basics of the Matrix Model, with a specific focus on issues related to teen and young adult populations. The workshop will explore the differences between the Adult Matrix and the Teen and Adolescent model. Additionally, it will provide valuable information on family and support education when working with teens and young adults.  This session also includes special information on working with process addictions such as gaming and social media and impacts on teens and adolescents.  Participants will review the core components and engage in mock groups to practice skills using Matrix handouts.

June 26th, 2025 Motivational Interviewing

This one day seminar is designed to provide the attendee information to understand the benefits of Motivational Interviewing. Motivational Interviewing is a directive, client-centered style of working and connecting with people. Each attendee will gain useful techniques for overcoming ambivalence to change within their clients. Correct and incorrect use of MI will be examined, along with indications and contraindications. Participants will receive a mix of lecture, videos, experiential activities and group participation.  

Although substance use disorders are specifically addressed Motivational Interviewing can be used with any issues around ambivalence. The video case scenarios will be used to help the participant see the techniques in action and process their use. Attendees will leave with a fresh, new approach for working with ambivalent clients and will be energized to help their clients become motivated to return to a healthy lifestyle. Motivational Interviewing is a key skill in utilizing Matrix and this session will assist in improving skills when implementing Matrix programs

In addition to substance use it is not unusual for an individual to present with trauma or adverse life events that also impact treatment needs. In order to provide the best possible care treatment strategies need to be developed to interject the right treatment at the right time and way to get the best possible outcomes.  This session will discuss way to improve screening, assessments and those treatment strategies.  This will include a review of questions we ask, language and how we approach individuals trying to manage co-occurring issues.  

 

This session also works well with Matrix Models and learning or adapting new skills and interventions can greatly improve treatment outcomes as well as providing the individuals additional skills to manage each disorder.   This training is particularly helpful for those with post incarceration syndrome and how both Matrix Criminal Justice and Trauma Informed Care can be utilized together.

October 24, 2025  Legal and Ethical Issues in The Treatment of Substance Use Disorders

This training is designed to inform professionals about legal implications in treatment and compliance with state, federal and local laws pertaining to treatment with substance use disorders.  In addition, we will discuss ethical and legal issues related to Tele-therapy specific to SUD and risk issues for professionals when providing tele-health services. We will also provide ethical dilemmas related to DUI evaluators and treatment providers.

This training will first review common legal requirements and laws pertaining to behavioral health and addiction treatment.  We will discuss the differences between laws specific to mental health and those for addiction.  Information will relate the differences in subpoenas for each and what professionals must know to avoid legal implications.
